Free Tree Health Check

Is your family tree right? We'll check three links for free.

Online trees are a wonderful place to start, and many of them copy each other's guesses. A parent link is only as good as the record behind it. Tell us three ancestors, and we'll look for the original records that prove or disprove who their parents were.

Ancestry gives you hints. We give you proof.

How it works

Three links, checked against the records

  1. Tell us three ancestors

From any online tree. Give us each person's name, rough dates and places, and who your tree says their parents were. A link to your tree helps too.

  2. We find the records

Baptisms, marriages, deaths, census returns, church registers and immigration files, read in the original wherever we can find them.

  3. You get a written report

By email, within 10 days. Each link is graded, with the record we used and what to look at next.

What the grades mean

Every link gets one of three answers

  • ProvenAn original record states the relationship, for example a baptism naming both parents.
  • ProbableThe evidence points strongly that way, but no single record says it outright.
  • Not supportedWe couldn't find a record for it, or a record says something different.

The small print

  • It's free, one check per family, with no obligation.
  • Ancestors born before 1925 only. We never look up living people.
  • We keep what you send private and use it only for your check.
  • This is how every Root & Quill book is researched. If you'd like the whole family traced the same way, a book is $325 for one family line. See Books & Pricing.
